Old Man River..."unlikely to return"

You all know how I feel about Brett Favre. If not, see my earlier post. Well, his season ended on Sunday when the Saints beat the Vikings in over time in the NFC Championship.

Let me just say, THANK GOD! I could not have taken a Manning-Favre Super Bowl (not that I can take the continuous talk about the Manning family since the Colts are playing the Saints).

OMR threw 310 yards, 1 TD, and 2 interceptions, one with 2 seconds left in regulation time. He also hurt his ankle in the 3rd quarter..the same play that he threw one of his interceptions. Directly, after the game Old Man River told Ed Werder that his return is "highly unlikely." Yea, we've heard that before.

Before making a final decision, he has gone home to Mississippi to discuss it with his family. With all the mental and physical hits he took, not just against the Saints, but all season, I suspect that it will take him a while to make a "decision." I also doubt that his family will have anything to do with his decision. He doesn't seem to take anything or anyone into consideration except for himself when he makes any decision.

Technically speaking, he has a year left on the contract with the Vikings that he signed in August..not that, that matters.

What really matters are these questions:
1. When will he retire?
2. When will he then unretire [AGAIN!]?
I'm guessing this time around he will pull a Junior Seau and come out of retirement mid season.
3. What team will he go to next?
I'm thinking he tries out a new color.  He's already done red (remember-his first season was as a Falcon), black, green (two different shades), yellow, and purple.

That rules out: the Ravens, Eagles, 49ers, Cardinals, Buccaneers, Redskins, Raiders, and Chiefs.  I guess if he really wants to rule out those colors completely, add the Patriots [THANK GOD!], Titans, Giants, Giants, Bills, Texans, Chargers, Bengals, Saints, Panthers, Jags, and Steelers to the list.
That leaves: the Browns, Lions, Dolphins, Rams, Seahawks, Bears, Broncos, Colts, and Cowboys.  Wow, look at all of his options.  Some of those teams I could actually see wanting him.

He doesn't seem to take anyone into consideration since it is his job, you see. And despite one lousy (albeit crucial) game, he is still a very talented football player.

I never said he wasn't talented and you'll never hear me say that. He just needs to cut the "retiring..oh wait no..just kidding..but I'll go to another team" thing.

I would think that he ought to take some other people into consideration when making up his mind. When the average working man or woman is offered a higher paying job that requires a transfer, don't you think he or she consults his spouse or other family members? It's a somewhat significant change for those people, and I would think that their opinions matter.

Interesting note: If Brett Favre stays retired, his last pass as a Packer, Jet, and Viking would all have been interceptions. As a Falcon, he was 0-4 with two interceptions, one of which was his first career pass that got taken to the house by the Redskins. I don't know whether or not his fourth and final pass as a Falcon was an interception, but there's a 33% chance it was, which would just be fitting.
