Until I come up with a better nickname, Lane Kiffin will now be referred to as Mr. One and Done (sort of how I only refer to a certain old indecisive QB as Old Man River). So, as I posted yesterday, Mr. One and Done has left Tennessee after 1 season and is now USC's head coach.Well..it appears that students at Tennessee were not too pleased with his decision. Not very surprising seeing how his disloyalty has screwed Tennessee.
According to sources, Ed Orgeron, the defensive coordinator that One and Done is taking with him to USC, secretly contacted the recruits who were supposed to enroll early and told them not to attend class and to go to USC instead. Additionally, Tennessee has lost around 5 of it's verbal commitments, while others say that are now considering other options. With National Signing Day being February 3rd, Tennessee has only a few weeks to sign a head coach and get some players on campus for official visits.
So what did the Tennessee students do last night? What all other college students do when they want to show their frustration: Get drunk, yell obscenities, and burn shit. I.e. riot!
It was estimated that around 1,000 fans gathered to show how they really felt.
The famous campus rock was painted:
A Kiffin T-shirt and a mattress were burned:
Students also blocked the exits of the sports complex, which prevented Mr. One and Done and his father, Monte Kiffin, from leaving the building.
The current players are, understandably, pissed off too. When One and Done announced to the Tennessee players that he was leaving, it enraged the players so much that the interim head coach, Kippy Brown, had to calm down the players. If I were a current player, I would have thrown a punch. He comes in, runs his gaping mouth, violates NCAA rules, 3 of his players attempt armed robbery (with a pellet gun..while wearing UT clothing), and then he abandons his team.
While I understand the school and his team feeling like he is a traitor, it's probably for the best since he has proven that the only thing he cares about is HIM. I don't really know how he expects to have the loyalty of the players at USC after he's shown he has NO loyalty.

Kiffin definitely comes across as an un-loyal bastard. The part I don't understand, is how he got out of his contract at Tennessee. Did they let him go or did he have a "USC clause"?
That said, I'm sure it's tough to turn down the offer to be head coach at USC. Recruiting at USC is much easier than at Tennessee so it gives him a better chance of success.
By the way, I like the new site design, very flashy.
Ryan, Kiffin had to buy out the contract, at either $800k or $1 million, I'm not sure if those values are AFTER the 2010 and 2009 seasons, respectively, or if they are at any point during those calendar years, but that's how he got out of it.
Kiffin only had to pay $800k to buy out his contract.
